Karen is also responsible for Stainless Steel and Aluminium metal labels that are marked by our YAg Laser. Typical applications for metal labels include Asset Tracking and labels for harsh environmental use. Contact Karen or Ina to discuss your application. We are well equipped to assist in software installation and custom applications or training on CAB label printers, call Randy or Julian to discuss your requirements. Technical Services responsibility is to ensure that each CAB printer we sell is maintained, repaired and calibrated to give you, the customer maximum reliability and head life. Head life is usually 20KM to 40KM although we have heard of up to 70 KM before elements fail. Failures are directly attributable to the quality of the ribbons and label materials you use. A top quality ribbon has several layers, not just what you see. The most important layer is a lubricant that minimises the friction between the head and ribbon. The next layer is the release layer and here is where you may need very high head temperatures (hence reduced head life) to obtain good print quality from inferior ribbons. Paper and Synthetic media is like sandpaper, if it feels rough ( read cheap ) it is very abrasive and can cause very early head failure. Quality materials have a complex multi-layer structure to maximise print quality, durability and minimise head wear. Run a strip of media over a strip of shiny metal several times and if it polishes the metal you are in for early head failure and down time. As there are only two head manufacturers this advice goes for all printer makes. Printing with a dirty head is an absolute no-no or with the ribbon upside down, these are the major causes of early print head failure. Clean the head daily, each time with a piece of unused clean soft fabric and IPA, iso-propyl alcohol. IPA s available at most hardware stores or at pharmacies. |
